Callen lovers, NCIS:LA fanfic writers, and everyone else, rejoice! I am posting our first Challenge!!! It’s an easy one, so I hope you’ll find an hour or so to sink your teeth into it. The winner gets something cool. (At least, I think it’s cool. If you don’t, that’s okay. You can send it back to me.)

THE CHALLENGE: WRITE A SHORT FIC ABOUT THE MISSING 2 HOURS IN EPISODE “PURITY.” [THE ENDCAPS FOR THE MISSING 2 HOURS ARE POSTED BELOW WITH CHARACTER CUES.] WRITE WHAT YOU BELIEVE HAPPENED DURING THOSE 2 HOURS. FOCUS, POINT OF VIEW, CAN BE FROM ANY OF THE CHARACTERS. POST YOUR PG-RATED ENTRY ON FANFICTION.NET BY APRIL 25, 2013 (YOUR TIMEZONE), AND PUT “NCISLA MAGAZINE CHALLENGE” IN THE SUMMARY. ALL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE LINKED TO ON THE MESSAGE BOARD.

Begin Endcaps with Character Cues

Sam Hanna approaches door. Hears sounds inside. Backs up, kicks in the door. [Camera pans from syringe on the floor, then to G Callen sitting on floor, leaning on a metal shelf, head sagging.]

G Callen: [Looks up at Sam, speech slurred] “What the hell took you so long?”

[Camera from Sam Hanna’s view, focuses on syringe on the ground]

Sam Hanna: [Looks at G and smiles] “You used the Hydroxyo- C.”

G Callen: [Raises eyebrows, attempts to sound upbeat, but voice is weak] “Worked like a charm.”

[[[MISSING TWO HOURS HERE]]]

[Camera zooms through exterior sky view to focus on the NCIS Office of Special Projects (Mission). Camera shows interior: armory room.]

Kensi Blye, Sam Hanna are at a near table, Marty Deeks and G Callen at far table. They are cleaning and loading their weapons.

Sam Hanna: “Ops is monitoring all water sensors and access points to underground utilities. And GWP is ready to cut off the water supply at a moment’s notice.”

Marty Deeks: “We’ve got local law enforcement and Kaleidoscope looking for ‘em. Eventually they’re going to have to show themselves.”

[Camera focuses on Callen struggling a bit with his weapon.]

G Callen drops the clip and a bullet rolls out. He reaches out and catches it, takes a frustrated breath.

Kensi Blye: “Callen, you sure you don’t want to guide us from Ops?”

G Callen: [Not making eye contact] “I’m fine.”

[Camera shot of Sam Hanna giving G Callen a concerned glance.]

Marty Deeks: “Yeah? ‘Cause a couple of hours ago you could barely move.”

G Callen: [turns and glares at Marty Deeks] “You want to arm wrestle?”

Marty Deeks: [smiles] “Fair enough.”
