Still, I guess if this IS the second episode of the season, maybe he decided not to shave during his holidays 😉
Or maybe he spent his holidays with Joelle and she likes the bearded look *hopes it’s not this option*
Maybe they broke up and he grew the beard!
That beard… maybe he and Sam got split up after the submarine-story and he is the one who managed to swim to an uninhabited Island where he had to stay several weeks until he was rescued.
Or maybe he’s the one who’s suspected of compromising agents and has been put in jail until innocent is proved.
Or maybe not… it maybe a disguise for an undercover op?
I cannot wait to find out why he hasn’t shaved?! And true: I do prefer the shortbuzzed hairdress and the rugged stubble.

I just can guess -like all of you- why he has changed but it might be connected to something that happend during their sub adventure. Maybe he needed some alone-time after that (and maybe he went for a search for his father abroad).
I don’t think that this particular look has something to do with the 2nd episode. Though I would like to have something similar to your thoughts.
I’m curious to find out the reason for Callen’s new look. I kind of like it. Too bad its only for one episode.
