I wonder when in Kensi’s past are her memories from? Her mission in Afghanistan? Some other time in her NCIS carreer? or pre- NCIS?
My first thought after reading that press release was: ‘More character background info? Nice.’ Followed by: ‘wait, what? Kensi background?’ immediately followed by ‘srsly wtf?! What about long overdue Deeks background that they also promised?’ and ‘did Fighting Shadows happen or was that just a hallucination? IA investigation anyone? hello??’
As happy as I am about all the new character developments and background info we get (very rarely) I’m just so over these writers. Sigh…
As for Kensis past/memories: I remember seeing her personnel file in an Episode, clearly enough to make out dates and her occupations during those career stages. But I can’t remember where. And I didn’t have the opportunity to look for it yet. I know you can see her file at the beginning of Spoils of War when Nell briefs the Team about Kensis disappearence. Finding where we can see the file clearly should tell us what she was doing and when. What I remember from the Blye, K episodes is that Kensi joined NCIS in 2007. If anyone knows where that file was shown or remembers the Details please feel free to post it. Now it’s all I can think about and I would really like to know myself.
It was 2006 when Kensi joined NCIS. Not 2007. My mistake.
Been browsing episodes to find the scene where one could clearly read Kensi’s “Agent Biography Form” listing the milestones of her career. I was so sure that I saw that thing somewhere other than in the beginning of Spoils of War. Or maybe it was on CBS Sync when the episode aired. Idk. Please, if anyone knows where it is or the milestone with the respective times themselves I would greatly appreciate it. I’m going nuts here.
I found it! It was among the CBS Sync material for Spoils of War. Here are the milestones:
Agents military service histroy:
N/A
Agent’s employment History:
Joined NCIS From: 8/03 To: Cur
Speciality Education
Agents employment history
Los Angeles OSP From: 6/09 To: Cur
Norfolk Nav Base From: 3/08 To: 6/09
Tokyo 7th Flt HQ From: 10/07 To: 3/08
Washington DC Office From: 12/06 To: 9/07
So Kensi apparently joined the OSP around the time the NCIS LA backdoor pilot aired during NCIS season 6 in 2009. So that might be correct. But according to her Agent Biography Form she had already worked for NCIS for six years at that point. That would mean another continuity error. Just saying.
Back to the episode at hand. We know she’s the top marksman on the team so she’s usually the sniper if one is requirerd. Didn’t happen too often during the show and thusly during her OSP time, though. At least that we saw during episodes. So she probably trained as a sniper during her pre-OSP times during which she may or may not have gone on classified missions and such. It would make sense.
Ahhhh speculation, speculation… 😉 And I know from experience that whatever you think may happen usually doesn’t or way different.
The date she joined on her file confuses me. It says 8/03 witch I assume means August 2003 but in K, Blye we learn she joined in 2006. unless she applied while in college in ’03 and didn’t start until after graduating college and fletc in ’06. Who knows?
S5 was all about Kensi, plus the Blye,K parts 1 & 2. As teasers suggest this is part 1 of 3 to the finale, maybe the link back to ‘Kensi the Sniper’ is to Afghanistan and it relates to Hetty, the mole and who the real villains who were after Hetty (and Arkady), as Matthias was going to take her back to Russia. Next week’s Beacon is meant to lay the ground work for the 3 parters…
At a stretch maybe the Deeks IA investigation is part of someones plot to destroy the team? But I am so surprised and disappointed that it hasn’t been mentioned since (although it would have been totally out of place to do so in ‘Rage’).
Field of Fire is the second part of the three parter which according to Diana Valentine isn’t really a three parter but sets things up.
But I’m so with you when it comes to the IA investigation not even being mentioned once and the characters (especially Deeks) acting like any other day/case. They bring up this big bad wolf that would and should haunt Deeks and also Kensi, who should also be worried about Deeks. Not to mention Grandmaster Hetty who always knows more than anyone else (oh bugger). I still feel this is a huge problem with the show. They set things like that up and revisit them months later if at all…
Not to go off topic but Hawaii Five-0 did the same thing with Chin Ho’s IA investigation. It started back in the fall and nothing happens until months later in the season. So it seems lots of shows have this problem. It is annoying but oh well.
