On January 12th, 2010 a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake, with an epicenter near the town of Léogâne (Ouest Department), approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi) west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital, hit the island of Haiti. Today, four years after the event, 170,000 people are still living in shelters and emergency accomodations. Organizations like the Red Cross are still working in the area to help the victims.
