Viewers have seen Gibbs in his basement working on his boat. They’ve glimpsed Sam Hanna’s home life. What if they got a full-on look at NCIS team members where they live?

That’s one of the distinctions of “Red,” the name of an NCIS mobile unit — and the episode title of a potential spin-off series that gets a two-part audition on NCIS: Los Angeles Tuesday and March 26 (CBS, 9 ET/PT).

In “Red,” home isn’t exactly what one might suspect; it’s an NCIS unit on wheels.Team members travel around the country and the world, taking their home and workplace with them: two tractor-trailers that convert, Transformers-style, into a single living/working environment.

‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ executive producer Shane Brennan gives a tour of ‘Lavern and Shirley,’ the NCIS: Red Team’s mobile command center. ‘Red: Part One,’ a two-part episode of ‘NCIS: Los Angeles,’ airs Tuesday, March 19.

This Tuesday on NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS, 9/8c), a perplexing case in Idaho finds Callen & Co. collaborating on location with the “Red” team, in an two-parter that serves as a pilot episode for a new offshoot of the JAG/NCIS franchise.

Kim Raver (24) and John Corbett (Parenthood) lead the planted pilot’s ensemble, respectively playing Special Agent Paris, the athletic, witty and bold leader of the Red team, and Roy Quaid, a former Special Agent forced to retire from active service who now works as an analyst. Rounding out the mobile unit are Gillian Alexy (Damages) as brainiac/military junkie Clare, Scott Grimes (ER) as forensic specialist Dave and Edwin Hodge (Cougar Town) as Kai, the IT guy.

Read the whole interview with Shane Brennan including the statement that the episodes create a “very interesting dilemma for Deeks that ultimately will affect their [Kensi & Deeks] relationship for the rest of the series”
