Callen’s Corner: What If Amy Had Lived?

CC_600x100

Notorious, Callen’s drive to find his family. Searching hard, as after the treasure of a lifetime, he goes from clue to clue, whenever he can, grasping at anything that will give him a hint to who he is, where he came from, and the family he never had. Or, rather, the family he remembered having.

Then, there was the case that led them to Keelson. A man who had all the answers that Callen ever wanted. And Callen was forced to shoot him. We were so glad that Keelson wasn’t able to play Callen anymore, but we mourned for the loss that occurred when G pulled that trigger. So sad.

But then, a spark of hope.

Keelson’s secret lair led us to her.

Even the words on a giant screen were enough to give us all chills.

Who was she? And what was she to Callen? Were they even related? Was this a cruel trick of coincidence? Callen didn’t think so. At least, that was my guess. Disobeying direct orders from Hetty was the true hint of how curious he was. He just had to know.

And he found her. Amy Callen.

But, it wasn’t her.

It was Hannah Lawson. The woman who had switched names with Amy Callen when they were teenagers. Amy had died with her name, and she lived with Amy’s. A tragedy of momentous proportions. And, this was when Callen had finally remembered.

He’d had a sister.

And she had died when he was about eight years old.

Break out the tissues.

A few weeks back, NCISLAMagazine had a poll asking who in G Callen’s family you fans wanted to be alive. The number one answer was “his father.” Seems a lot of you think that it would make a great twist to things if the man is alive and able to interact with Callen. The answer that surprised us, was the one garnering the second-highest amount of votes: “his sister Amy, not really dead.”

So, wait… Let’s explore what would have changed if she had actually been alive. Imagine that Callen goes looking for “Amy Callen”, and he finds her. What would his response be?

Besides questioning the poor woman for days straight, I think there would be certain answers that would come out of it.

He would find out what Amy remembered about their parents. Why they were in Romania. Why they were left in orphanages and foster homes following their mother’s death. Why they were split up. He’d discover what Amy was like, and about her dislikes and favorites. He’d learn how much she loved him, and discover how much love he could direct at someone with his own blood. And, finally, he would have someone to connect years of “alone” with, changing things to “not alone.” Finally.

He would also learn about their heritage. Maybe even about what type of parents they’d had.

Especially concerning Clara…

Callen and Clara info

Amy was three years older, at least. That’s at least three more years to learn their mother. What kind of habits did Clara have? What would happen when they’d get praised as children? What would happen when they were in trouble? What did Clara practice when it was bedtime? Were there rituals? Lullabies? I love you’s whispered?

Amy would remember.

And, if Amy had lived, her hugs would have been a soothing extension of Clara’s embrace.
Callen could have experienced so much healing in a single hug from Amy.

If Amy had lived.

If only.

Thanks, Kevi. Loved the post… in a sad, heart-wrenching way. I actually was one of those who “voted” for Callen’s sister to be the one he found. And you hit the nail on the head as to why I had clicked on that choice.

I agree that he would certainly benefit from her memories (as the traumatic event on the beech seemed to have triggered a gap in the poor guy’s memory for so many years.) And I think, of all the people in the world, Amy would be most like him. Not only would they share DNA, but Amy would be the one person who could actually relate to him emotionally. She had also been “abandoned,” lonely, and searching.

So in addition to providing answers, I think his big sister would offer him a great deal of comfort (nurturing) that he has missed out on his whole life.

Yes, in that very same poll I was one of the others that wished Callen really had been given the opportunity to learn to get to know his sister and through her, learn more about his mother and perhaps his father too.
Where was Amy when G and his mother were at the beach? Would she have known his real name? She would probably have been able to give him even something more, trust, family issues, perhaps a whole new family with kids to live around.
In my opinion, Amy’s youth was ever so much better than Callen’s. She had more time to grow up in a family, she must have had fun with her baby brother [on the other hand, she must have realized even more what she lost when her mother died!?]
Hannah told Callen about the friendship they shared, something Callen never seemed to experience in his youth.
Yes, it was my first choice. #whatif’s, however, can slowly destroy people. So sad…

I understand the sentiment behind this post, I really do. But I think it would remove too much too quickly of the mystery behind Callen, on which we all thrive. Could have revealed the name behind the G with Hannah, but all she knew was “baby brother”. It would have been too soon. So for Amy to appear and tell all … I’m not sure where they would go with him afterwards.

The appearance of his father would, I think, be much more adversarial … why leave it so long to show himself … less likely to be that happily ever after family moment and information would more likely have to be teased out rather than land all in one go.

Since I believe that Amy Callen is alive **watch Callen,G this woman wanted to tell him something more but decided not to do it**
I agree, having a sister would be so beneficial for him.She has to remember more about their parents,HIS NAME.Well, and she would be his family. Wouldn’t it be nice to hear him say: “I had dinner with my sister on Saturday.” ?

I think any family of this past will appear, and I think hetty will be involved in that !! and I think she snows more about his past than anyone else!!! I family shut going to discover about his past!!!!!!!!

Now this is one of the posts that makes me want to give G a big hug, comfort him and shed a tear or two…! Very emotional!

Imagine what Amy could share with G…
Meeting his father would of course be interesting and surely offer a great storyline.
But Amy… They share childhood memories in a way no parent can provide.

We don’t know if G’s father has been with the family at all – but with Amy we know. G remembers her. How much they could relive together, how many new memories for G to discover, finally experiencing some kind of home.
Thinking about how close he got to experience all that and then nothing – this is heartbreaking…

I somehow think his father showing up would raise a lot of additional questions but Amy being alive could finally bring some answers.

great post Keviana. well i was the one who voted for callen’s father to be alive.
What if he is alive (it’s what i thought)
Just imagine what will happen when callen will meet his father. he will be able to know about his father, also his father will be able to tell him about his mother, as well as about his sister and so much more about his family. After knowing all this, he will co-relate himself with all this info and we all also will, but then their be a emotional roller coaster in his life.
well we all know he has a mother figure in his life but having his father back will be fun to watch. Then we will see how will callen react to having a person who actually is his family and we’ll know more about callen.

After reading your post, u made me think again on everything.
    loved the post. Great job.

I’m with you on this. I too wanted to give G a hug to comfort him in this scene. Broke my heart when he finally found he had a sister, only to find she had died so young :(. I too voted for Amy to be alive. I still hope that she really is alive. How much relief that would give G, having her around again. But I think these things takes time. Like they did on NCIS with Gibbs. It took many years before they revealed more about what he did, when he killed e man who killed Shannon and Kelly. I also think his Father is out there. Perhaps his name was more dangerous than The Callen name. So many theories, that keep us all wondering…great for ratings 🙂

  9. I Feel Possessed

Amy is dead. No doubt about that and if the writers suddenly make her alive it had better be brilliant otherwise I’ll stop watching (it would be ridiculous)!

However the “what ifs” are fascinating and this article is so beautifully written. The sense of relief and comfort it would have brought to Callen if he had found Amy alive.

*When* TBTB finally reveal information on Callen’s father, I have no doubt that there will be no happy families, or happy ever after. I agree with BH72 that maybe his father’s name is even more dangerous than the name Callen. And maybe his father is dangerous, or a criminal or something else…
