We aren’t finished discussing birthdays. Because we have a situation. Obviously.
Callen has never received a birthday card in his entire life.
This is tragic.
It might be said that Callen isn’t a birthday person to begin with, because, frankly, birthdays are only fun to celebrate with one’s family and friends. Perhaps the orphan thing got in the way too often for birthdays to be anything positive for him. So, maybe there never was happy thoughts mixed in with “birthdays”…
Still, shouldn’t Callen have had at least a birthday card??
How about a party?
Yes, G Callen is very much a loner (*cough* sometimes lone wolf *cough*), but let’s imagine it out. He has options. Spend time with his Team, and they could get him a cake, or, he could mention it to Sam and they could go grab a steak after work…
Okay. Maybe those scenarios don’t work that well. After all, this was the guy who told Sam to be sure he put money in the very first birthday card…
He probably treats the day as if it’s just like every other day.
SO WRONG!!!
He deserves to have someone make an effort to celebrate his birth.
How about we list out some Callen-worthy birthday gifts? You know, ones that Callen might nod at.
- A Hungarian quote book
- A Scrabble board game in Welsh or Icelandic (since he likes to keep his mind busy, probably to chase away nightmares or to kill time since he doesn’t have a TV)
- A larger box for memories
- Family. Blood family. PEOPLE HE’S RELATED TO
- To finally know what the “G” stands for
- Rare beer or scotch
- An old Russian mystery book, perhaps involving spies
- A lot of Tootsie Pops (a lot like 400 or something, since he goes through them so fast)
- Tickets to attend a Lakers game with Sam
- A new toaster to disassemble and put back together
- A gift card for Rosetta Stone
- An island
- A yacht
- A new dog he could name “Buddy”
I think as long as we all agree to NOT give him a Michael Jackson sequined glove for his birthday, it should go well. Don’t you think so?
Okay. Since we’ve discussed all of this, I feel we are ready to give out a birthday gift (or two)…
In Callen’s honor.
And, no, it’s not a glock.
CALLEN’S CORNER CHALLENGE 3 WINNERS
The entries were great, and I cheered at the creativity displayed. Good job, people!!
The winners?
Congratulations to Nikita and Bee!
You both are being gifted a Hetty-esque tea cup and saucer!!! We hope that you both think happy thoughts of us at the NCISLAMagazine whenever you pretend to be Ms. Hetty Lange for your family. Remember: don’t be cheeky, but do keep the chainsaw from the spider monkey.
And, for heaven’s sake, send Mr. Callen a birthday card.
Readers: what do YOU think is an ideal gift for Callen?

Congratulations to the winners!!! Hmmmm. Gift for Callen… Since a group hug from all us G Callen fans is out of the question, I think a steak dinner with Sam (and Sam paying this time) would be nice. I agree he would probably not appreciate a big production, though.
As someone that’s Icelandic I find it more than awesome that you mentioned my language! A scrabble board in my native language would be awesome but first I suggest handing him a language course book – it should keep him occupied for many years to come 🙂
Other than that, I suggest a trip to Greenland. Different, exotic and a lovely place.
Do we actually know WHEN Callen’s birthday is, yet?
yuppie, won the challenge. I am cloud nine. thank you keviana for opportunity and thanks to the magazine.
Well the birthday gift for callen would be a nice dinner at Hetty house including his team and Gibbs, since he treats the day as normal, we should do something that should make him feel special but shouldn’t make a big deal out of it. and not to forget a toast from Hetty in her unique way and words.
Wee! I have Hetty-approved beverages waiting.
I think the perfect gift for callan would be something from his mother, like a dairy or callens baby book or a video , anything to give a clue to his past. and as far as birthday cards, cant figure out why hetty didn’t give him one over the years , even someone from the orphanage would have.
