Callen’s Corner: Bromance In Next Episode

Previews have been released and there’s something in there we’ve never seen happen before…

Sam’s hugging Callen.

Not a bro hug.
Like, a serious, end-of-the-world hug.
What?!!

Sam & Callen Hug

Help us speculate here.

What is going on in the episode to prompt this??

My first thought was that something happened to Hetty. It is going to be one heck of an emotional episode and that hug just might draw a tear or two from some viewers.

It’s the look on Sam’s face that makes me worried. I had to watch the preview a couple of times to make sure it was Callen (not like that would make me feel any better if it wasn’t).

It’s them playing with our emotions and getting everyone to talk about it and it won’t be anything to worry about or something really REALLY bad is going to happen.

Either way make sure the tissue box is close by to use or toss at the TV.

If it had something to do with Hetty, that wouldn’t be Sam’s reaction. I’m thinking it has something to do with his dad. That would be emotional enough for Callen to need a hug, and removed enough for Sam to have that “Yeah, it sux, but I’m here for you, buddy” look on his face.

Oh wow… that’s an emotional hug… umm it has to be pretty serious I agree!

That doesn’t look like a Hetty’s in peril hug, but isn’t this episode supposed to be centered around something Hetty had done in the past?

i’ve got a couple of theories that may or may not be connected…

I do think it has something to do with Hetty-Sam’s expression is stoic-Hetty has kind of been like a mother to Callen so if something were to happen to her, Callen would def be emotional about it but Sam, while impacted, would show a brave face for the sake of his partner…and I since this epi is Hetty-centric, I think something happened in the past with her and Callen’s dad that is now kind of coming full circle…

and I have no idea if that makes any kind of sense whatsoever 🙂 haha

Earlier, I posted on a site that Callen usually sticks close by when Sam is going through emotional stuff, but G goes off alone to deal with his. So we’ve never seen this type of hug between these two. I jumped up out of my chair when I saw “the hug” on the previews. Like some of you, first thought was Hetty. It just seems like a consoling hug after a great loss. Maybe Callen finds out for sure his dad is gone, and it hits him that he IS the only one left. They sure know how to mess with our heads!

I never, ever, saw this kind of hug between Sam and Callen. It is as if somebody has told something terrible to Callen who is upset, which angers Sam.
As said above, I do think it has got something to do with either Hetty, or…
What if Callen made a terrible mistake and somebody hurt Eric?

Oboy… we’re all guessing. And waiting.

  8. justdreaming-83

Wow, Richtsje! Eric was my second thought, after Hetty. He’s like the “innocent” one in the group, not able to defend himself. Even though I think it’s a little soon to bring him back into the picture, I just hope Janvier hasn’t found a way to continue to hurt those Callen loves. Okay. Shutting up now before the “what if” part of my brain takes me hostage and I can’t get my work done.

What worries me the most is not the look on Sam’s face (a mixture of anger and grief) but the Callen’s posture. Sam doesn’t only pull him into a hug but he voluntarily gives in obviously seeking for comfort burying his face. So the question in my opinion is, what could have happened that not only leads to grief but also to anger in Sam’s case? Clearly Sam loathes someone or something that hurt his partner. As you all mentioned, Hetty might be a sure bet but is there a connection to Callen’s past (which comes to mind in first place when seeing Callen that broken)? Is Hetty hurt or did Hetty hurt Callen herself? But as Sean Brennan is known for unforeseeable twists and turns, other reasons are equally possible…

This hug has been the biggest topic of conversation ever since the promo aired. It’s new. We’ve never seen Sam console a defeated Callen before. His head is hung low. Whatever it is, it’s devastating for Callen and Sam is peeved because of it. Is it their careers, as Callen states? Is it Hetty? Eric? Callen’s Father? We could analyse this till Tuesday, and still be surprised by the reason behind it. All I can say, it’s fantastic advertising for the show.

From the moment I saw that preview, that scene caught my attention. Sure, Callen and Sam have joked around before in a bromance sort’a way as we have all seen in previous episodes but never a hug like this.

And Callen must be hurt pretty bad for Sam to console him in this manner. Although we can pretty much guess Callen’s facial expression in this scene, what I also find intriguing is that his face is hidden from us viewers. I guess that is intentionally done for the sake of the preview but still, no less intriguing!

Theories and guesses have been raised as to what prompted the hug, but all we can do for now is patiently (!) wait for the episode to reveal what we’re all dying to know!

I was too chocked to think when I saw this – but actually now I’m wondering if this is not just a CBS -trick… [Spoiler] Sam might be really really really relieved to see G alive and safe after a crazy stunt (like jumping into underground train running…) and G meanwhile might realize how crazy he was, and is relieved as well to have escaped death // Or G had tried to save someone from a train – holding back a good guy/woman – and failed — and Sam is here for him. I think the scene is down the subway – seeing the wall behind.

  13. justdreaming-83

Yeah, Cashkend. I like your theory. Even though it’s sad to think Callen failed at saving someone, and watched them perish right in front of him, I can take that better than it being one of the team. So I’ll hold onto that thought for a few more days. (That, and the fact that we were probably “set up” by the people responsible for the clips in the previews. lol)

Like all of you this entire gesture leaves me contemplating (and worrying).
The look on Sam’s face… and G looking defeated… We’ve seen G emotional before, crying even, but I can’t think of a scene where he looked like that… head down, kind of beaten… G is a fighter so this must be something really serious this time…

Or – this is just another of Shane Brennan’s unexpected twists and everything is not in the least what it seems…

No matter what – I’m counting days ’til we find out!

That hug just looks like something devastating has happened / been witnessed that is personal to Callen. It’s like a hug you give a child to comfort and protect them. First thought is that it’s to do with Hetty, but now other’s have said, I could also see it may be to do with Eric.

As the episode is about Hetty (and there is a “Russian man” listed in the cast, I guess it is possible that info about Callen could also be revealed, but the episode’s not been billed as such. Same as there are no rumours about a cast member getting injured…

Makes me wonder if it really will be as big a deal as we are making it. But it sure is a great talking point. I just sincerely hope this episode doesn’t disappoint, especially after the misguided hype of Callen being undercover as a high school teacher…
